Charles “Charlie” Pistner joined Merchant McIntyre Associates to help nonprofits achieve their objectives by winning significant federal support. With an extensive background in managing federal grants and federally directed grant programs, Charlie appreciates the impact federal investment can have on local communities and nonprofits.

Bill Walton, one of the winningest college basketball players of all time, once said: “Basketball is one of those rare opportunities where you can make a difference, not only for yourself, but for other people as well.” When it comes to serving MM’s nonprofit clients, Charlie works not only to make a difference them, but also for the people who rely on them.

Prior to joining MM, Charlie worked for the Congressionally-founded National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) where he managed federal grants and partnerships for the nation’s largest private conservation grant funder.  As Senior Manager, Charlie collaborated with program staff and attorneys at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of Justice, and Department of Agriculture to fund a diverse portfolio of nonprofits nationwide.

Charlie began his career in government as a student at Michigan State University where he worked in the Michigan House of Representatives and for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Outside the office, Charlie can be found going for runs around DC, exploring the mountains, or reading a new book. Some of his favorites include The Swerve by Stephen Greenblatt, The Nick Adams Stories, and The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.
