Garnet Health Medical Center – Catskills (GHMC-C) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of its community by providing exceptional health care.
GHMC-C delivers outpatient and inpatient acute care at both its Harris and Callicoon campuses and residential healthcare in Harris via a 64-bed Skilled Nursing Unit. In addition, Garnet Health maintains five primary care, urgent care, and specialty care practice locations in the four geographically diverse, rural Sullivan County communities of Harris, Livingston Manor, Monticello, and White Lake, NY.
On behalf of the SMHART Network, GHMC-C was awarded $1.2 million from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to implement the Sullivan County Telemental Health Program for individuals presenting in the Emergency Department (ED) of GHMC-C (Harris and Callicoon campuses) with mental and behavioral health issues. The program will also enable telehealth consultations at Garnet Health Doctors’ primary care clinics and through the Sullivan County Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) for child and adolescent referrals and recommendations for outpatient treatment, psychiatric follow-up, and/or ED transfer.
Sullivan County is in a provider shortage area for mental health and has some of the highest rates of depression, mood disorder, and suicide in the mid-Hudson region and New York State. The telemental health program will expand GHMC-C’s current telehealth services to improve behavioral health and emergency medical outcomes for its rural, underserved community.
