NYACK

Nyack College is a minority-serving institution of higher education in the heart of New York City that serves an incredibly diverse student body of many underrepresented demographics.

NYACKThe underlying principle of Nyack’s many federal funding priorities is to provide the best possible support services to students as they complete their programs of study. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic heightened the need for Nyack to expand its mental and behavioral health support structures accessible to students.

In response to this challenge, MM and Nyack leadership worked together to win a $233,584 grant award from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Mental Health Awareness Training (MHAT) program.

The five-year award from SAMHSA supported the expansion of Nyack’s Counseling Services. Specifically, Nyack used the funding to train faculty, students, and leaders at community-based organizations with close ties to the College on Mental Health First Aid.  This has enabled these individuals to recognize and respond to students suffering from mental and/or behavioral health issues.
